About this site

Several years ago, I started out to write a guide book for the Dinkey Lakes Wilderness. When no one wanted to publish it, I decided to try to create a website instead. That was a bit of a challenge, as I had never published a website before, but it is surprisingly easy once you’ve done it once. I therefore published another, this time about the Kaiser Wilderness. Those two were done on WIX, which subsequently updated its software. That update made the sites difficult to access and even more difficult to edit, so I decided to go ahead and rewrite the site. This was in done the fall of 2018 as a combination of the two previous sites, with a section added for the Jenny Lakes Wilderness as well.

I’ve been exploring the Dinkey Lakes wilderness since before it was granted wilderness status, which I believe happened in 1984. I’ve been roaming the other two areas for about as long.

I grew up in a house that bordered the Plumas National Forest, and began exploring the Sierras back in the 1950s, so it is no exaggeration that I’ve been hiking and fishing the Sierras for over sixty five years now.

I hope you enjoy this site as much as I’ve enjoyed putting it together. If you’ve never been to the alpine lakes, be sure to go. Any of the lakes I’ve described can be reached on a day trip from Fresno/Clovis. An overnight or longer trip will, of course, allow more time for exploration and relaxation.

If you’re not sure whether you’d like to explore one of these areas, check out the pictures. That should whet your appetite for adventure. I’ve taken all of the pictures on this site over a period of years. A few were taken by an old film camera, the newer ones on a smartphone. I made the video included in “pictures of Jennie and Weaver” with a GoPro.

If you have any experiences/photos you’d like to see added to this site, you can email them to me at flyflinger78@yahoo.com.

If you have any problems using/accessing this site, please let me know.

WIX is a free website publisher that seems to work quite well. The new software is easier to use than the old.  Of course, they’d love it if I’d upgrade the site, but then I’d have to pay. I like free.

If you have something you’d like to publish online, I highly recommend WIX.  Note:  This site worked well for me for a long time, but recently the makers decided I had too many pictures, and could only have 500 MB. Therefore, I have lost several pictures and can't figure out how to put them back. If you see empty spots, that's where there used to be a picture.

This site had been ignored for a year or so, then, wen it was reopened, I discovered that a couple dozen pictures had been deleted because, according to WIX, I had exceeded my data limit. Therefore, there are fewer pictures than there once were.
